I am a native Delawarean. I am also a very proud Golden Graduate (Class of 1966) of HBCU Delaware State University (then Delaware State College). For post graduate studies, I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Work. My profession has been been rewarding and exciting. From a direct service field social worker to Assistant Professor, spanning from Delaware to New York City to Pennsylvania and back to Delaware then on to The Bahamas. After a 43 year Social Work Educator Career, I retired in April 2014 from the University of The Bahamas, Nassau, The Bahamas.
I returned home to Delaware after my retirement and settled in Newark with my newest profession, Nanny for my 2 delightful Granddaughters and Manager of The House of Lawrence. I am happily enjoying being an Older Delawarean and a full-time Retiree.
I was accepted for membership in this great Sisterhood, with the Zeta Omega Chapter, on Saturday,17th March 1986. My Mentor and sponsor was the beautiful Pearl Soror Claudette Evans.
I have had only one sad moment after becoming an AKA - one year after I became a member, my future Bahamian husband, a HBCU Howard University Architecture Grad, spirited me away to The Bahamas. I lived, worked, and enjoyed being a resident and later a citizen of The Bahamas. I lived in Nassau for 30 years. During that time I became an active Member of the Eta Psi Omega Chapter, the 2nd oldest Chapter Chartered outside the US; the first Chartered Chapter was Liberia.
As a member of the Eta Psi Omega Chapter, I served as 2nd Anti Basileus, First Anti Basileus and Basileus. I also held a variety of other positions. During Ivy Beyond the Wall Supreme Basileus Eva Evans' tenure, I was appointed to the International Connection Committee as the International Region Representative. I was fortunate to meet so many wonderful Sorors from around the world. Under the Presidency of Ivy Beyond the Wall Soror Janet Jones Ballad, the International Region was voted in as the 10th Region. Since The Bahamas is a beautiful place to live and to convene conferences, I had the opportunity to volunteer with the 2 Conferences that were in The Bahamas. It was a joy to Welcome so many Sorors to two of our Islands for Leadership Conferences in Nassau and Grand Bahamas.
Coming full cycle and after a 34 year membership, I now look forward to submitting application for Life Membership....Ashay!
